That's exactly how I'd categorize this "DVD Audio" disc, too. It pretty much just lets you down. While the music is nice, sometimes verging on a little to sparing to successfully pull you in, I was disappointed that this (and indeed, none of the Directions discs) are DVD-Audio discs. Rather, they are DVD-Music discs (yes there is a difference, Virginia). The sound quality has been jacked up from most other DVD-Video discs, but that is all this is. It bothers me that so many releases that are being dubbed DVD-Audio are instead in this format, which will only serve to confuse an already confused market. With format wars between DVD-Audio and SACD, we don't really need another type of disc confusing consumers anymore than they already are. With that in mind, and rating this disc on its own merits, it is just okay. I can't say that I would want to own all the directions discs, but since I got this one in a bargain basement for 3.99 I can't really complain. It is definitely an acquired taste musically, but the production values are quite good. + See Full Customer Review |  |
