If this video truly shows an easy way to create paint finishes for furniture, then it's for people who have the craft gene going full blast, because it doesn't look effortless. Even no-nonsense host Debbie Travis of public television's Painted House admits at one tedious point: "This is the horrid stage. No one really enjoys this." Several techniques are painstakingly outlined for those patient (and talented) enough to give them a try: antiquing; finishes in verdigris and tortoiseshell; vinegar-graining (done in "the old days" to make paint last); crackle paint; crackle varnish; and gilding. The examples are truly breathtaking, from the verdigris candlesticks to the tortoiseshell sconces. Easy to follow, yes. Easy? Perhaps it's all relative.
