| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: Rating : - Works for some devices, but lack of voltage regulator is a problem With 4 alkaline batteries as it suggests, I get about 6V out, but the USB spec requires between 4.75V and 5.25V.
I was worried I might damage my devices with the extra voltage, but figured I'd give it a shot. My HTC Mogul cell phone appeared to charge fine, but my iPod Nano 3rd gen didn't appear to do anything (and the green light did not come on the power pack). I switched to NiMH rechargables (total voltage about 5.5V) and now my iPod charges fine. The iPod says "Rated 5-30V" on the back, but clearly there's something about 6V it doesn't like.
So, the power pack appears to be doing what I need of it, but I'm still worried about the damage the out-of-spec voltage may cause. I'm surprised they can even use the USB logo when they're clearly in violation of the USB specification. + See Full Customer Review | |
