I was introduced to Ms. May by a co-worker who really liked some of her songs. Before I knew her, that person had some traumatic experience from which she was still healing, and in that context, I understand why she really liked Corrine.
Ms. May's lyrics tend to be very upbeat in their messages--I get the impression that she struggled to overcome some serious issues in her journey, and that Jesus was her guiding light or something like that.
I wouldn't call this "Christian pop-rock," but it's about as close as you can get without actually being there. Norman Vincent Peale would have been a huge (no pun intended) fan. Corrine does *not* seek to hit you over the head with the Jesus mallet until you convert. Her song's are largely about or tangentially related to her personal relationship with the unseen powers behind the curtain. They praise the positive effect that Corrine's faith has had on her life. Sometimes her songs sound more like testimonials than anything else.
I like her voice very much. Her musical arrangements are pretty good all-in-all. But her lyrics are, to put it bluntly, incredibly trite. Most of the songs are pretty much, "I like God, and God likes me," "God really helped me," and, "Yes, I can!"). If she was singing in Chinese I'd love her (as I wouldn't undertand the words).
If you're into people singing about how all the good things in their life are owing to Jesus (and not your own circumstances, talent, and perseverence), I'll go out on a limb and say you'll probably enjoy this and her other releases.
I hope that someday, Ms. May writes and performs songs with greater depth. I really do appreciate the lady's talent as a singer and musician. But her songs are just too sickly-sweet and religiously themed for my taste. They leave me wishing that Corrine could get into de-programming and learn that she has all the strength she needs without using faith as a crutch.
